Middlesbrough goalscorers Christian Benteke and Wilfried Zaha have both been giving their thoughts following this weekend’s victory and Crystal Palace’s first Premier League win of 2016/17.

Beginning with new signing Christian Benteke, who picked up his maiden Palace goal as he connected with Wilfried Zaha cross in the first half, he was obviously delighted to be off the mark now.

Speaking to Crystal Palace FC in his pwn post game press interviews, he explained.

‘Obviously a good feeling after getting the win, it was not easy but in this game we worked really hard to get the three points. I haven`t had pre-season games so I have gone straight into the last couple of weeks and know I can do better, I tried to do my best and look forward to when I am 100% but it was really good to get the goal and get us on our way.’

Having debuted in the draw at Selhurst Park against Bournemouth, the 25 year old said he hoped fans would’ve seen an improvement in his play given growing fitness, and he also spoke about the goal on the day.

‘Heading is one of my strengths so I try to do the best I can when the ball comes over and it was great to see the ball go in the net. I think looking back on the game we can be pleased with some of the good football that we played, we have players who can switch to different styles of play as it is needed and that was how we played today. I am really looking forward to the season as we progress as a team and very pleased that I made the decision to become part of this football club.’

With his brother Jonathan now being at the club, and clearly applauding his goal from the bench – he replaced him late on in the game – and he’s looking forward to both of them now hopefully playing alongside each other in the future.

‘It is something he will be delighted about and I am so happy for him as it has been his dream to play in the Premier League and I am sure he will have enjoyed his few minutes on the pitch.’

As for Wilf who got the assist and then joined Benteke on the scoresheet, hitting the winner, he was delighted to have played his part in the return of all three points.

‘Every game is hard work really, but today – obviously we haven’t won in a while – so I’m buzzing we’ve won today. I feel like we pass the ball more. It’s not just in the air constantly and that gives us wingers a chance to get on the ball and do what we do. I’m enjoying how we play more now. Winning a game means we’ll go into the next game more confident. We’ll try to play the way we play and try to get the win again.’

Speaking about his assist, he had praise for Benteke.

‘Literally put any ball in the air and he’ll header it. I saw him peel off, so I thought ‘let me try and get it to him’ and I knew that he’d get on the end of it. I’m buzzing.’

He ended with praise for the fans.

‘There are no words for how they are – at home or away – their support follows us everywhere we go. We were going through a rough patch but they still stood by us. I’m thankful for that.’
