Yannick Bolasie’s agent has confirmed that he has turned down the chance to represent DR Congo at the African Cup of Nations.

Speaking to the BBC Tony Finnigan confirmed that Bolasie thought it was the wrong time due to the number of matches he would miss at Palace.

‘He’s not going. Of course Yannick has thought about it but he just decided it’s not the right time at this stage. It would mean missing a lot of matches and that would disrupt his Palace career when he is just starting to play regularly.’

Bolasie hasn’t turned his back on an international career though, he just sees the benefits of cementing himself at Palace first.

‘It’s an honour but he feels playing Congo is something that can come later.’

Huge boost for us really with the potential upheaval it would cause in our attacking options.
