Crystal Palace midfielder Yohan Cabaye has said that he and his teammates are ready for the battle they face with Premier League football returning this weekend.

With the November international break coming to an end, Palace continue to be rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table on four points, six points behind 17th place Bournemouth and Cabaye insists the players are ‘ready to fight’ as we look to close the gap under Roy Hodgson.

Speaking to Crystal Palace FC with eyes moving to the weekend, the Frenchman explained.

‘We are motivated to win games and to give our best on the pitch because we all know where we are today. The mentality is very good every day, we work hard and now we just have to take what we do at the training ground into the weekend. I know it`s totally different but we`ve got quality in the team, we have to play with confidence, perform well and try to win. It`s not enough to say ‘we played well today` if we get nothing from the game, hopefully now we will take points and keep playing well – that`s the target for us.’

Hosting Everton at Selhurst Park, Cabaye knows they’ll be boosted following victory over Watford ahead of the break and he knows the ongoing managerial situation at the club will have the players wanting to show their best so he’s expecting a battle.

‘We know how it is when you change manager. All the players want to show themselves to the new manager, so it will be a tough game. We are ready to fight and we just have to be focused on the three points and nothing less than that. We have to play with our heads and stay clever on the pitch, we can`t do silly things. We need to stay solid. We are working really hard on the shape of the team defensively and also offensively. Unfortunately for Roy we had big injuries up front to Wilf and to Christian. Now Christian is back training, so things should get better and better.’

With Wilf returning to good effect, Cabaye went on to say.

‘We missed Wilf since the beginning of the season and Christian more recently. Wilf, we all know how good he is. He can do some things that only he knows how to do, he`s a key player for us. He can score and assist, his qualities are so high. We need to help him as well, to give him good passes in the final third and help him to be at his best. And also Christian, he is a goalscorer, so we need to give him the chance in the box to score goals.’

He also had words of thanks for the fans for sticking with the side given our struggles so far this season.

‘First of all I`d like to thank them a lot. I know sometimes it`s hard to see some of our games, but I want to let them know that we give everything every day to be better and to perform well at the weekend. Their support is massive for us and we need them right behind us, to try to turn things around and hopefully to have better days.’
