Dougie Freedman has declared himself pleased with the efforts of the lads against Exeter.

Speaking to the Croydon Advertiser after the 2-1 win which sees us face Preston in the second round of the Capital One Cup, Dougie said he was pleased to see us progress again.

‘We had a fantastic run last season and I played a team I felt would win the game, and my teams don’t turn up when they want to, they are committed to winning matches. The fans travelled a long way and showed tremendous support. I think we can perform better though. We got off to a disappointing start and we showed tremendous character to come back and in the end I felt we did enough to win it.’

Freedman was also pleased with our overall defensive play.

‘I felt we defended quite well as a unit, I’ll give credit to Exeter, it was a ball into the back post and their guy has nipped in, so of course we can do better. Joel did well and I’ve felt he’s getting better every game.’
