Dougie Freedman was left frustrated last night as he believes we should’ve defended better and not allowed the officials the option of awarding a penalty.

Speaking to Crystal Palace FC after the game Dougie said he didn’t believe it was a penalty, but we gave the ref the chance to award one and really should’ve coped with it better.

‘It’s difficult to say if it was. I don’t it was, but I do believe we gave the referee the opportunity to give a freek ick in the box. We could have defended it a lot better, it was sloppy on our behalf.’

Last night wasn’t just the Brighton game, it was also the end of the transfer window and whilst Dougie was disappointed to not take all 3 points in the game, he was delighted with the end of the window.

‘I’ve got a wonderful, fantastic board who back me whatever decision I make. In this particular case (Zaha) the bid never reached me. We had a brief conversation, me and Steve, before the weekend and it just wasn’t the right time for us as a club and as a team. It wasn’t the right time for anybody to go.’

Freedman adds that Zaha won’t be affected by not getting a move this summer because he’s more interested in being around his family and friends given his age…he’s plenty of time to step up and get a big money move, so for now he’ll just enjoy life and his football.
