Dowie’s been tango’ed

CRYSTAL PALACE chairman Simon Jordan gained a deserved victory today when a High Court judge upheld his claim that he was ‘deceived’ by former Palace boss Iain Dowie.

Mr Justice Tugendhat ruled the Championship club entered into a compromise agreement, freeing Dowie from his deal, on the basis of ‘fraudulent representations’.

Dowie had a clause in his contract to the effect that, if he left to join another club, Palace would receive £1million compensation.

Jordan said: ‘I took a man to the High Court for fraudulent misrepresentation and he’s been found guilty.

‘The claims and costs will be decided at a later date.

‘I think it’s a good day for football because managers’ contracts and what people do and say in football, as the national game, are very important.

‘Having the courage of your convictions to take it to the High Court and be successful is a good thing.’
