Experienced defender backs Zaha after transfer turmoil

|

New Palace signing, Gary Cahill, has spoken very highly of Wilfried Zaha following constant rumours of bids and transfer requests throughout the summer transfer window.

Everton and Arsenal reportedly bid for Zaha, 26, but the fan favourite remained at Selhurst Park as no suitable bid came in before the transfer deadline on August 8.

There were reports that Zaha was angered with the Palace hierarchy and predictions were made about his commitment to the club before the opening fixture against Everton.

Gary Cahill has dismissed such a reaction and said Zaha had been “First class to be honest with you,” when talking to TALKsport earlier today.

Cahill also said to TALKsport: “And I know how difficult it can be when things like that are circulating in your head and you have to go through these emotions.

“You’re so close to the start of the season and I realise it could be tough for him.

“But I can only say off the back of what I’ve seen and once that didn’t materialise, the way he’s trained, his attitude to training and the way he has been around the place is first class.

“That’s what I go off and for me there is no issue whatsoever.

“He’s obviously a top, top player, that’ why clubs want him

“Selfishly, I’m delighted he stayed because he could be the difference between three or four places in the league.”

Palace fans have reacted well to Cahill’s comments which dismiss previous reports from various sources about Zaha’s poor attitude in reaction to any failed transfers.

It was reported from different sources that Mamadou Sakho called a team meeting and told Zaha to commit to Palace whilst he remained at the club.

These claims were late dismissed by Andros Townsend and Zaha himself on social media. Such stories and reports have angered Palace fans recently who are now finding most transfer news regarding Zaha completely laughable and completely dishonest.
