FA Cup – Palace 1-2 Liverpool

There wasn’t to be a repeat to Palace’s 1990 FA Cup win over Liverpool, which was of course secured by manager Alan Pardew’s extra time winner in that semi final, as Liverpool came from behind to knock us out Saturday night.

At half time it was looking good for another Palace win under Pardew, and more importantly, a place in the last eight but Liverpool ended up winning relatively comfortably two-one at Selhurst in the end as they again came from behind to advance in the cup….

This wasn’t meant to be the case, with these the pre-game thoughts:-

Palace win 38%
Liverpool win 37%
Draw 25%

Campbell (15) continued to work his way back into Pardew’s thoughts more with another goal, having scored the equaliser against Newcastle in the Premier League prior, to mark his return to the starting XI with a goal. Skrtel’s clearance fell to Gayle, Mignolet saved his effort but Campbell was on hand to convert the rebound.

Liverpool had a couple of good chance to draw level but Speroni save and Dann block another effort as an appeal for a penalty for the visitors was also waved away.

Sturridge (49) fired through the legs of Speroni early in the second to bring Liverpool level within minutes of the restart with Lallana (58) following up Balotelli’s freekick, which was won by the half time substitute himself, to put Liverpool ahead and complete the comeback win without much trouble.

An opportunity has been missed here, we genuinely could have gone all the way but we’ll now ‘concentrate on the league’….

Following this game, as is customary of course, attention now turns to the MotM for us – who you think this was?

Select the name that you want from the list in the poll to your right, but why not also share your thoughts with us on your thinking for that person, and this latest game itself, with some views….

Missed opprtunity wasn’t it, we might not have won the FA Cup but had a very good chance and this was our game for the winning at half time.
