After being kept uncharacteristically quiet by the Pompey defence last night, Dougie believes that Wilfried Zaha will learn from it.

Speaking to London24 Dougie Freedman said he had no concerns about Zaha’s form and nor is he worrying about burnout, because simply the expectations surrounding Zaha at the moment are so high that a 7 out of 10 performance can be considered a failure and disappointing now.

But it’s exactly these types of games that Zaha will learn most from, and learn to become a little bit more clever to have a telling impact in as he develops.

‘Whenever Wilfried plays there are high expectations and a 7 out of 10 game can be disappointing. He wasn’t tired but he came up against good, experienced defenders and he is still learning. We have to be patient with him.’

With our 8 game unbeaten run, despite not scoring in the last two games, Freedman sees as a clear sign of improvement.

‘We have punched above our weight and we will keep marching on. (Last night) we gave another battling display but just couldn’t apply the pressure where it was needed in the final third.’
