Hodgson Returns For 39 Cap International After January Failure

|

The latest rumour of any note during football’s silly season – aside from the ongoing ‘Andros Townsend to return to Newcastle’ stories we see every window – concerns Turkisk international midfielder Ozan Tufan.

Turkish Football have claimed today that Roy Hodgson has gone back for the January transfer window target of his as he continues to look to strengthen the group to ensure Palace don’t endure a season like we did in 2017/18.

They say that Tufan was on the verge of joining us on deadline day at the tail end of January but for whatever reason, the deal fell through at the final moments. If that’s true, the season didn’t get any better for Tufan as he failed to break back into La Liga side Girona’s first team squad and apparently spent the second half of the year with their reserves.

It’s said we have maintained our interest in the player since and early talks have now been held with his agent. In 14 appearances for them, Tufan scored three times and added two assists to his tally and it’s believed the 22-year-old is available for as little as £2.5million.

I certainly don’t remember his name being linked back in January at all, but I’m not as young and as sprightly as I used to be so I may have just forgotten. Despite his young age, he does have 39 caps for Turkey though so at that price, if Hodgson does have an interest, it could turn out to be a steal of a deal from our perspective.
