Holloway Wants To Give Wilf Premiership Shot

Ian Holloway has been talking about promotion and Wilfried Zaha.

Speaking to various press, Holloway has already made comments about bettering what he achieved at Blackpool with Palace, and talking about the foundations he has walked into it, but you can tell there’s a bit of a charm offensive when it comes to Wilf.

‘He’s played 100 odd games already at the age of 19, sometimes you don’t get that at these bigger clubs. Yes, people will covet him, but it’s all about timing. There’s a lot in his game that we can all work on with him. There will be a right time, I don’t know when that is. Wilfried is a very lucky man. He’s in a place where he is playing and the crowd absolutely love him, life couldn’t be better.’

Tellingly, Holloway added.

‘Who’s to say we can’t catch them and get him playing in the Premier League very quickly?’

Quotes: BBC London 94.9.

Well let’s face it, after all the work Holloway did at Blackpool, there’s no way he joined us unless he thought we were ready to…or very close to achieving promotion. He hasn’t joined us to stay in the Championship.

Whether that can be achieved this season or not will remain open to debate, although we’ve certainly put ourselves into the right position to attempt it if we can keep our form going. But I’d be surprised, very surprised if Holloway wasn’t at least confident enough in joining that he thought next season we would be ready to mount a serious challenge.

I’m sure if Wilf sees us heading in the right direction, it will make his future clearer as well.

Dougie said he was in a hurry!
Perhaps Palace and Ollie could turn out to be the team to make him wait a little longer?

Certainly hope so. You’d like to think he’s seen the others who have moved on early and then spent a season or so in the reserves with odd appearances as a marker….much better for his development to playing regularly, we just have to keep banging that message home and then if we can progress ourselves it should buy us a season or two longer with him.
