Palace in for former Leicester man

|

Palace are rumoured to be making a move for a former Premier League winner after he was released by Leicester at the end of last season.

Danny Simpson, who won the Premier League with the Foxes in 2016, has been linked with both Crystal Palace and Brighton in the last 24 hours.

The right back, 32, was training with Celtic earlier in the summer and it’s believed that contact has been made with Simpson’s agent.

Simpson has made 243 Premier League appearances in his career so far and would provide needed competition at right back following the sale of Aaron Wan Bissaka to Manchester United for £50 million in July.

Palace were linked with numerous full backs throughout the window, including Kyle Walker-Peters, Timothy Castagne and Nathaniel Clyne. But nothing materialised leaving Joel Ward and Patrick Van Aanholt as the only recognised senior full backs at the club.

If the move were to go through for Palace, fans won’t be getting too carried away following a poor summer transfer window. The move is more out of necessity rather than a well planned target following recruitment and will further worries about the team’s average age of 28.5 years.
