Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson confirmed that our injury list at the club continued to grow as he spoke post Newcastle United.

Having taken a point as we hosted Newcastle United at Selhurst Park on Sunday, we went into the game with goalkeeper Julian Speroni not in the matchday squad and we also lost centre half Martin Kelly in first half stoppage time.

Speaking to Crystal Palace FC as he met with the media at the end of 90 minutes, Hodgson confirmed that it was a hamstring issue that Kelly had complained of but full scans were set to take place today so he had his fingers crossed.

‘It`s very annoying because we`ve worked hard to avoid muscle injuries. That came about because of a foul – he felt a twinge in his hamstring because of the foul. He was moving away from a player who was pulling him back and the movement he had to make to get forward to the ball made him tweak his hamstring.’

Pressed on initial thoughts for the severity, Hodgson went on to say that we wouldn’t know for sure until today but with him coming off immediately there was a chance we might get ‘lucky’ and with it not being a ‘violent movement’ we might have caught it before it became something that would see the player out for a number of weeks.

As for Speroni, he missed out following a knee injury in training the day prior to the game and although it didn’t seem to bad at the time, overnight it had swollen so he’s also set for a scan to determine the severity.

‘He was injured in training yesterday just before the end, when he twisted his knee in a five a side game. He – and we – didn`t think it was going to be that problematic straight after training, but overnight it`s swollen and it`s feeling stiff so tomorrow he will have a scan to see how bad that damage is.’

Whether both return for our reunion next weekend with Sam Allardyce at Goodison Park remains to be seen.
