Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew has confirmed that skipper Scott Dann will miss this weekend’s game against Sunderland following the hamstring injury he picked up in the midweek League Cup defeat to Southampton.

Pulling up early on in the first half and quickly being substituted in what became a two nil loss, Dann was a doubt for this game naturally, but James Tomkins has been passed fit for the game.

Speaking to Crystal Palace FC in his pre Sunderland press conference, the gaffer explained.

‘Scott Dann has a slight strain in his hamstring, definitely will miss this game and possibly Everton as well. Tomkins is fit. That’s why we invested heavily in him, so we could seamlessly fit him in to that centre half position, so that’s worked out okay for us.’

‘I rested some players due to the Premier League demands and with our squad we needed to make sure we got everybody up to speed. Although the result didn’t go well for us, those guys will be better for it.’

The Croydon Advertiser also have him saying in his pre game press conference that despite the midweek result, Palace are still confident going into the game and they are looking to secure a third straight league win.

‘The cup games can give you that little boost. We had that last season in the FA Cup. I think Sunderland are a side trying to find that first league win, so there is extra pressure on them which they will feel on Saturday. It’s a different competition to the EFL Cup and that could play a part. We’re going there to win a game of professional football and we’re going to do the best possible job we can with a team at the moment which looks in good form.’
