Steve Parish has said that he believes meeting Liverpool in the Carling Cup Final would be a tremendous reward for the club given the last few seasons.

Speaking to the Metro Parish said he had a ‘soft spot’ for Liverpool given our previous semi finals against them in years gone by, and he’d love nothing more that to face off against them in the Final at Wembley.

‘I am sure Cardiff were hoping for us and we were hoping for them. We could probably make more money out of Man City or Liverpool but we have been in one Wembley final in our history – it would be amazing for us to get there.’

Parish adds specifically about his wish for Liverpool.

‘I have got a soft spot for Liverpool. Kenny was manager when we beat them 4-3 in the semi finals. You never know, this would be a dream, a fairytale after everything we have been through.’

The cup run isn’t only a bonus for the fans after recent years, but Parish also thinks it’s the perfect reward for Dougie for all the work he’s put in since taking over.

‘Dougie is doing a great job. He’s giving the youngsters a chance and he is coaching them well, schooling them and making them better.’

With the Cardiff tie it’s certainly a possibility isn’t it. It’ll be a tough match but we have to believe in ourselves.
