Player Of The Year After Eight Games?

On-loan Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho is in the running to be named the Player of the Year at Crystal Palace, despite making just eight appearances for the club.

Sakho, set to miss remainder of his loan due to a knee injury sustained in the defeat against Tottenham, is highly unlikely to add to his eight games for Palace in the remaining two fixtures of the 2016-17 season, which would certainly benefit the Eagles’ relegation bid if he could.

The French international made an unbelievable impact at Selhurst Park, Palace won five of the eight games in which he featured with four clean sheets also retained, but Player of the Year? If that were to prove the case with Sakho, 27, it would highlight just how poor others have been.

It’s not been a great season all things considered, but in fairness the performances of Christian Benteke, Yohan Cabaye, Jason Puncheon, Andros Townsend and Wilfried Zaha will lead to one of these being crowed as Palace’s Player of the Year, wouldn’t it?
