Following today’s clash between Crystal Palace and Bournemouth, here are the instant reactions from both managers.

Crystal Palace hosted Bournemouth at Selhurst Park for a 3pm kick off on Saturday December 9, with both sides playing out a two all draw. Bournemouth took the lead twice in the game with Jermain Defoe helping himself to a brace, but the hosts equalised on each occasion with their efforts coming from a Luka Milivojevic penalty and Scott Dann.

Christian Benteke did have an injury time penalty saved and Bournemouth had their own shouts for a penalty late on which was ignored by the referee.

Teams:

Crystal Palace:

Speroni, Fosu-Mensah, Tomkins, Sakho (Dann 25), Schlupp, Townsend (Sako 78), Cabaye (McArthur 65), Milivojevic, Loftus-Cheek, Zaha, Benteke.

Substitutes:

van Aanholt, Hennessey, Kelly, Puncheon.

Bournemouth:

Begovic, Francis, S Cook, Ake, Daniels, Stanislas (Ibe 65), L Cook, Surman, Fraser (Afobe 87), King, Defoe (Wilson 80).

Substitutes:

Boruc, Gosling, Arter, Simpson.

Speaking to the Sky Sports’ cameras a short time after match day referee Kevin Friend blew the final whistle, Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson explained that with Christian Benteke’s penalty miss, the Belgian had basically gone rogue when taking it.

‘I am frustrated, especially when you see a penalty missed in the last minutes of the game, by someone who has not been designated as a penalty taker, but has decided at the last minute that he is the man to take the penalty. I think if you do that, you’ve really got to score it, or you risk the wrath of a lot of people, not least of all your manager, coaches and team-mates.’

Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe in his comparitive interview focused in on goalscorer Defoe.

‘The second one is just an incredible goal. Lewis Cook’s ball is brilliantly weighted, and Jermain still had a lot to do. His finish was of the highest quality. Great run, and unbelievable technique to get the ball over Speroni from that distance, and that angle, top class.’

Adding.

‘That last 10 minutes was very, very tough. I enjoyed the majority of the game today, I thought we played very well and was very pleased with the balance of the team. I thought we looked very fluid with the ball, we were brave, the mentality in attack as well.’
