Palace boss Peter Taylor believes his side is back in contention for a play-off place following the 1-0 win over Southend United at Roots Hall.

Southend though, could easily have won the game but they were left rueing missed chances after Kevin Maher, Lee Bradbury and Richie Foran all missed chances for the hosts.

Just as Southend were taking control of the game and keeping Palace on the back foot, a blocked Dougie Freedman shot fell in the path of Paul Ifill, who slotted the ball home.
The Line-Ups
Palace boss Peter Taylor
‘I think we will have to win nine of our remaining 13 matches (to reach the play-offs), but it is not beyond us.

‘We certainly have the quality and the belief to succeed, but everyone is fully aware that the challenge is a huge one.’

Southend boss Steve Tilson
‘We certainly deserved something. We created several chances.

‘Although many of them were not clear-cut, the fact remains we should have at least put one away.

‘It makes our job harder to avoid relegation, but I still have confidence in the players to climb out of trouble – although it is a big ask.’

quite an even game from what i remember although southend produced more chances and as you say should/could of won easily considered you only had like 2/3 clear cuts chances i think we were very unlucky but i spose thats the way it goes down the bottom.

what’s your general opinion on simon jordan? I like him, he’s definitely got his opinions, and his columns are funny and pull no punches, but sometimes i get the impression he loves courting the limelight, like with the david sullivan stuff… good luck for tomorrow, btw. »»Arsene Knows««
