Striker speaks out following blunt display against Blades

Christian Benteke has shared his frustrations following defeat away to Sheffield United on Sunday.

Benteke’s comments pinpoint long term problems for Palace based on creating chances and the work of the team in the attacking third.

His honest words show that Palace were below the standard the team expect to reach, which is also the opinion of many Eagles fans following the disappointing result against the Blades.

Speaking to Palace TV post match on Sunday, Benteke said: “It was a frustrating afternoon out there, not just for me but for the team. We came here with the mindset to get the three points and we did not get that and it’s a frustrating afternoon.”

“We didn’t deserve to win to be honest, if you look at our second half.”

“I think that is our problem [creating opportunities in front of goal]; we don’t create enough chances. I think it is about the animation, we have to be more available for each other and we have to work on it,”

“It is no excuse. We knew they would be extra motivated, as they’d just got back to the Premier League. We knew that is was going to be a tough game, battle. I think the first half was okay but the second was not good enough.”

The Belgian striker has had numerous problems over the past two seasons failing to find any form in front of goal and being sidelined for a long period last season with a knee injury.

Benteke found the net just once last season and has only scored 4 times in his last 49 for Palace.

He started his Palace career well following a £27 million move from Liverpool in the 2016 summer transfer window where he scored 17 in his first 40 matches.
