Symons wanted Palace Job

Poor Kit Symons all he wanted was a fair crack of the whip, but all fell on deaf ears, so Kit moves on to pastures new.

The appointment of Neil Warnock proved all to much for Kit, he wanted the Palace job so bad, well at least given the chance to prove he could do the job, but could Palace really take that chance, obviously not with the appointment of Warnock.

Kit told South London Press, ‘It`s no secret I wanted to be Palace manager and every time the job was available I let that be known to the powers that be but it never came along,’ Symons told the South London Press. ‘I don`t really think I was ever close to getting it.

‘My most realistic chance was probably after my spell as caretaker, but I was only 32. If I didn’t get it then perhaps I was never going to.’

Back in December 2003 Symons took caretaker charge after Steve Kember was sacked, Kit told SLP of that time, ‘I had a decent record at a difficult time,’ recalled Symons. ‘We had three wins, three draws and kept four clean sheets. In my last two games we finished off with a 1-0 victory at home to Nottingham Forest and a 3-0 win at Reading.

‘The team that finished those two games went on to get to the play-offs and win promotion. I would like to feel I played some part in stabilising things.’

On leaving Palace kit also told the South London Press, ‘I felt I had a good rapport with the fans and I appreciate the support they`ve given me,’ he said. ‘But there are a lot of people working at the club – like Bev the cook and Nelly who does the tea in the boardroom – who make it a special place. They are the people I`ll miss most.’

Bye Kit and from all us Palace fans good luck mate…
