Goalscorers Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Mamadou Sakho were both giving their thoughts following Crystal Palace’s victory over Stoke City at the weekend and James Tomkins also appeared in front of the media.

Beginning with Loftus-Cheek, he told Crystal Palace FC that the atmosphere in the dressing room was certainly improving.

‘The boys are really happy with the win, it`s a massive three points for us and I think the goal to bring us level just lifted our spirit, got the fans behind us and set us up for a big win. When there is a lot on the line they are the best games to play in and every three points matter. It was a fight this one but we definitely matched them and luckily we came out on top in the end.’

He also had praise for the impact of Christian Benteke as he came off the bench at the break.

‘We are really pleased to have Christian back because it gives another dimension to our play, as we can hit Christian up the top and he can hold it up or flick it on so that makes a massive difference to us so to have him there is great.’

Adding about Sakho’s winner.

‘We had a few chances in the game but Stoke defend well as they have some good players in there so it is difficult but right at the end Yohan pulls off at the back post to get the shooting chance and he hit the post before it fell to Mama. We need that kind of luck because we have played really well over the last two or three weeks and only got draws so it is really big for us to get that win. We now have two big games this week coming up with our focus firstly on Brighton, another tough one but a massive three points if we can get them. We will look to recover well and get our bodies right for that match.’

Sakho himself reflected.

‘I am happy and indeed for the squad, the most important thing today is winning this game because we needed to and that showed the way all the squad and the fans kept fighting until the end. Thank God that the ball came to me in the box and I just had to put my right foot onto it and its three points but now we need to have a good recovery because we now have an important game on Tuesday.’

Speaking about his winner.

‘Wilf did really well on the edge of the box and then Yohan Cabaye also as he had a really good shot at goal but in the end I had the chance today so thank god and we can enjoy this three points. I wanted to bring all the players together into the celebrations because it was a tough game and we all deserved to enjoy this goal and that is why I went to see the players on the bench. This game is not just the 11 players on the pitch but also the players on the bench and the fans.’

With Brighton in midweek, he was relishing the opportunity and the atmosphere.

‘It`s an important game and I have had a lot of experience playing in this type of game, at PSG we played Marseille, Liverpool against Everton and Manchester United but now Palace against Brighton. We now need a really good recovery and have our fans behind us on Tuesday so we are ready for the fight.’

So finally to Tomkins, he felt the result would see our fortunes change moving forward but it was down to the players to prove that.

‘I think it`s nice to get a little bit of luck, we haven`t got much this season and we were probably due some so it`s nice to get some right at the end when Mama put it away. It`s a good feeling to score in the 90th minute, knowing it`s a likely three points. It`s great to get that victory and points wise it`s a massive help.’

Having come back into the squad after having to bide his time, he went on to explain.

‘I`ve been out for a little while and I`ve had to bide my time, train hard and show the manager what I can do. Physically it`s just nice to get that 90 minutes in. I felt I played well and the defence did well, for the most part they didn`t look like scoring. It took a sublime individual goal from Shaqiri to score but apart from that we never really looked like conceding. We could have crumbled after one-nil but we came back well.’

‘I think the performances of late have been really good and long may it continue. These next few games are just as important as today. To start the week off with 3 points is massive.’
