Crystal Palace’s Capital One Cup run goes on after a win at Selhurst Park against Charlton on Wednesday.

A second half demolition, with Campbell and in particular Gayle with his second half hat-trick reminding Pardew what they can do, saw Charlton get one goal through Sarr but they didn’t come near Palace who ran out four-one winners to move into round four.

The sides, both made changes but Charlton boss Luzon may rue leaving out quite as many key first-team players as he did, couldn’t be separated at half time with this goalless.

Palace made the breakthrough though just after the break when Campbell (51) scored with former French international Diarra soon bringing Campbell down in the box to give the Eagles the chance to double this lead.

Gayle (59) made no mistake from the resulting penalty just before the hour.

A third goal in 15-minutes in the second half, this time from Charlton, had the Addicks back in the game through Sarr (65) but the game was put to bed by Gayle (74) as he again scored from the penalty spot to make it three. The second penalty award also earned Diarra a red card!

Gayle (86) completed his 27-minute hat-trick when he headed home to complete a four-one win late on to prove just how important he is to Palace and just why it could end up being a good thing he wasn’t sold in the summer, which if he does end up moving on in January could also add a little more to his value….his Premier League chance could now come?

This win set up a fourth round tie with Man City at the Etihad Stadium with the draw made shortly after the win over our London rivals.
