Lennie Lawrence has said that Jonathan Williams should resist any England calls, and stick with Wales.

Speaking to the BBC our assistant manager said that he believes Williams’ development will be better aided by being around the Welsh international camp rather than being overlooked by England.

‘The strong advice from me would be to play for Wales. There’s all sorts of rumours flying around that England are interest, but the strong advice from me would be to play for Wales.’

Lawrence adds it’s because.

‘I think Gary Speed will pick him and Gary Speed will play him when he thinks it’s right. I would absolutely stick down that route, that’s the advice from me and Dougie.’

Certainly makes sense to me. Speed has already shown he has taken an interest in him and wants to help develop him in the right way. I see no benefit for Jon for getting a headline grabbing debut for England and then playing second fiddle to the usual favourites.
