Crystal Palace boss Frank de Boer is looking to make Barcelona’s Thomas Vermaelen his first signing, according to the Mirror.

The former Arsenal defender, who is out of favour at the Nou Camp and was at Roma last season, has reportedly indicated to Palace he’s ‘open to a return both to the Premier League and to London.’

Vermaelen, 31, has two years left on his current deal with Barcelona but as struggled for involvement, along with fitness, since leaving Arsenal for Catalonia.

It was also claimed de Boer, who should have good contacts at the Nou Camp from his time as a player with the Spanish giants, has asked about the availability of Barca goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen.

De Boer and countryman Cillessen worked together at Ajax. Like Vermaelen the Dutch international has struggled for first team football at Barcelona and the Palace boss has asked ‘about their plans for keeper.’

However, Kenny Tete isn’t going to come to Selhurst Park? De Boer’s former defender at Ajax had been subjected to reported interest from Palace – he’s expected to join French club Lyon.
