Delaney – No More Excuses

Defender Damien Delaney was brutally honest following defeat to Swansea City last night as he knows the time for excuses are long over.

Hosting the side at Selhurst Park a poor first half performance saw us a goal down on the day but Wilfried Zaha did have us back on level terms before we again conceded minutes from time and with new manager Sam Allardyce admitting he has a bigger challenge than he expected, Delaney was pretty honest about not ‘dressing things’ up when he spoke to Crystal Palace FC in his own post game press interviews.

He knew the only way out of the mess we are in is to work even harder and keep plugging away until things turn in our favour with results.

‘We’re way below where we should be, but we can’t make excuses. We can’t dress it up. They’ve been playing reasonably well and they showed the concentration that maybe they’ve lacked. But having said that, to get back to 1-1 and to lose to a late goal is crazy.’

With it being Allardyce’s first game at Selhurst Park the disappointment of the fans were clear across the 90 minutes and whilst Delaney said people should more than take the positives from Big Sam’s record of avoiding the drop as a manager it’ll count for nothing unless the players pick themselves up and improve.

‘He’s got a tremendous track record, but we can’t rely on that. He’s not going to make us into anything without tremendous hard work on the training ground. There’s no point blaming other people, it’s on our shoulders now. We’ve got to get back to the training ground, get back to work.’

The two one defeat leaves Palace just one point above Sunderland in the bottom three.
