Dougie Freedman was again disappointed to see us drop points on our travels but he was pleased with the spirit and determination shown as he believes we went down fighting.

Speaking to Crystal Palace FC following our 1-0 loss to Burnley, Freedman was reasonably happy with what he saw even though we couldn’t add to our points tally.

‘We gave it a good go and we all know that if you’re going to go down, you have to go down fighting like that. It’s an encouraging sign that we will not go down without a fight and we showed that.’

It’s disappointing to see us lose points away from home again, as even a point would’ve helped in our battle for survival but the spirit within the camp cannot be discounted and you just have to hope that with the determination it will click for us over the remaining games and we can get ourselves on a run of 2-3 back to back wins to make life far easier.

Freedman was obviously disappointed to see us going behind so quickly, as leaving us chasing the game for the majority of the 90 minutes is always an uphill struggle, especially when things aren’t going for you anyway.

‘Unfortunately it wasn’t to be our day. We had chances, their keeper made a few good saves, we’ve been unlucky. It’s disappointing to concede in the first five minutes as it proved to be the winning goal.’

The positive, if any can be taken from going behind so early, was that Freedman was happy we didn’t let our heads drop, panic or anything like that. We stuck to the original game plan and on another day he’s sure we’d have had the luck of that ‘final ball’ and at least walked away with a point.

For Freedman that leaves him with confidence for the remainder of the season and a positive belief we will be able to pull further away from the bottom of the table, and end this campaign on a high.

‘I strongly believe that we have the characters in this team to defend the way we did and make chances and I’m more than confident in the coming games.’

Let’s hope that confidence turns into more points and Dougie is more than proved right.
