Effort Can’t Be Faulted

Manager Neil Warnock has said he can’t fault the effort of the lads in our game against Hull City.

Speaking to Crystal Palace FC following the two nil loss our gaffer admitted he was very disappointed with the result and frustrated that we didn’t come away with at least a point on the day but he wasn’t going to be too downhearted given the effort we showed.

‘Yes to lose the game is disappointing but I can’t fault the effort, but we probably needed a little more belief at times. When we went a goal behind we had our best spell of the game but I need to see that before we are in that situation, but I can’t criticise.’

Warnock goes on to say that a trip to Hull is never easy and he thought them making a few changes was a actually a ‘compliment’ to us because he felt they set up to stop us playing our game but unfortunately that did work for them.

‘I’m disappointed with one or two things but I can’t fault the effort, you could all see that was certainly there.’

The manager wasn’t overly pleased with the refereeing performance either, going on to say that he had to take Fraizer Campbell off after he picked up a booking for ‘silly fouls’ but he also went on to talk about Campbell getting niggled and having a few words with the ref as well having been bodychecked, and fouled a few times himself including the Michael Dawson elbow incident which definitely riled him up.

‘Dawson shouldn’t be able to lead like that, it’s always going to be dangerous play. It seems it’s ok for the ref to see the pulling of shirts but the elbows are the ones you’ve got to spot, and he is one of our top referees, I can’t understand it.’

As for our game itself, Warnock finishes by saying that the first goal was always going to be all important in the game really but unfortunately for us we just didn’t take the chances we created, but he knows that if the players keep on putting a shift in like that then results should go for us in the future.
