Dougie Freedman has said he was disappointed by Stuart Pearce’s decision to omit Wilfried Zaha from the Olympic squad.
Speaking to the Croydon Advertiser Freedman said that Wilf more than deserved a place in the squad and he was surprised by the omission.
‘We are very disappointed as a club as we felt he deserved to be in there for his performances. We feel he should have made it.’
Whilst this means that Zaha will be available for our full pre season, Dougie thinks the experience of the Olympics would’ve been more beneficial to him.
‘Pre season is about getting you fit and focused for the season, but I feel him being in the squad would have been good for him.’
With doubts over Daniel Sturridge’s health at the moment (suspected viral meningitis) Wilf could still make the team as a replacement.
