Dougie Freedman has said he has learnt a lot about the team following our 2-1 loss to Welling today.

Speaking to the Croydon Advertiser following the game, the gaffer was bluntly honest about the depth of the squad as he continues to prepare us for the coming season.

‘The result was disappointing, but this has taught me a few lessons today about what players can do and what they can’t. It showed me that some of the young players are nowhere near ready for the first team and that we need more depth in the squad. We need to add a left winger, possibly a right winger, a couple up top and maybe a centre half.’

Silver linings and all that. I’m sure Dougie knew that beforehand, but it’s far more valuable to have proof of an assumption when he approaches the board over additional targets to ensure we don’t struggle and continue to build next term.

The Croydon Advertiser also carry a match report from today’s game.
