Aaron Martin has insisted that only by working hard will he achieve his aim of Premiership football.

The 22 year old Southampton youngster joins up with Palace on loan for our next campaign and he’s determined to make a success of it, saying to the South London Press that instead of commuting, he will base himself locally for the duration of the loan so he can give it his all without any distractions.

‘I’ve worked so hard since I’ve been at Southampton because I never wanted to waste the opportunity. I was first in and last to leave, I still am, I’ve still got a lot to learn. I want to play every game, that’s my aim.’

So on the opportunity to move to Palace, he knew it was the perfect choice once he spoke to Dougie Freedman.

‘Within a couple of minutes of talking to him I knew it was the right decision. Dougie sold the club to me really well. I know exactly where I want to get to and I know I need to work extremely hard to do that. I’ve improved so much since I first got to Southampton, but I can be 10 times better than I am now.’

Fingers crossed the loan works out, and with Gardner moving on, Martin is bound to get some good match time, so if he impresses and shows he can handle the Championship on a weekly basis we really should benefit from the loan, and who knows what will happen in the future?

One thing is for certain, his head seems firmly screwed on and he’s saying all the right things for a lad of his age looking to really launch his career.
