Manager Dougie Freedman has thrown his full support behind the plans of the Supporters’ Trust to provide a new state of the art training ground for the Eagles.

Speaking to News Shopper following the post Reading members vote at Selhurst Park, Freedman announced that in discussions going back to the summer, he believes the Trust have come up with a fantastic plan and design, and he can only see benefits for the club as a whole by the proposal reaching fruition – although he would like to make a couple of tweaks to the plans.

‘They’ve come up with a great design. But I am looking to put one or two touches to the inside of the training ground in terms of the layout, and help the guys with things like transport links.’

Dougie says the only changes he would like to see to the original plans are just certain things he believes a club in the South of London must identify as necessities for such a site.

Vice Chairman of the Supporters’ Trust Raj Chandarana said after approval was given, that he was pleased with the input of Dougie over the months and had nothing but praise for the time he’s spent personally involved in the project.

‘Dougie’s been fantastic. Most of the discussions we had were with Dougie, he has been our point man on this project in terms of the coaching staff to ensure the facility we get is based on a model which he thinks is best for the club in the long term.’

Chandarana adds.

‘This is a once in a life time opportunity to get a state of the art training facility built for the club.’

For anybody who doesn’t know, the origination of the idea to build a training ground came from discussions the CPST had with the new owners over ways in which the Trust and fans in general could play a bigger part in the running of the club, as originally the idea had been to look at purchasing the stadium when the club was in administration.

‘It was Steve Parish who suggested this scheme as something we might want to do.’
