Glenn Murray topped a great performance up front for us last night in the two one victory over Manchester City with the opening goal in the game.

With Murray’s 34th minute goal being his fifth in the league this season, he was obviously delighted with his night’s business as he spoke to Crystal Palace FC following the game.

It was also his fifth goal in five matches.

‘I suppose it is one of my best nights here, I’ve not had time to reflect on it yet, but yeah it’s a good night for the club. I’m enjoying things at the moment. It took a little time to get over my knee and obviously I worked hard to get back to this position and I’m enjoying it now. I think ever since the gaffer’s come in he’s been uplifting results and the boys have reacted to that. We’re a happy group at the minute. He’s just made it more attacking, obviously the two wide boys and Punch can get on the ball and sort of express themselves and I benefit off the back of that.’

With a huge talking point from the game being whether or not Murray was offside in the build up to the goal (he wasn’t) and also a ball to hand incident, he was just pleased to have got the doubt from the referee and his assistants.

‘That was my first look over my left shoulder just to check he hadn’t flagged and luckily it didn’t go up and it got counted. I felt the handball was more ball-to-hand than anything. It was just one of those split-second things and obviously the referee didn’t give it.’

Going back to the game and our plan for it, Murray admitted that a lot of hard work had gone into our preparations so we would be right for them, and thankfully that paid off and we took what was a justified victory based on our performance.

‘I think it was a lot of hard work and it’s been right throughout the week. We’ve worked on our team shape and how we stop such great players as Manchester City’s side. I think great credit has got to go to the defence and our teamwork, for the part it played in that victory. You’ve got to accept that when a top team comes to town you’ve got to almost let them have it in areas of the pitch and not let them pick you off individually. We felt as though tonight was almost a free game for us, when the champions come to town you’re not really expected to win, so I’m delighted with the result. We’re that type of group that will keep working hard and keep pushing for every point we can gain.’
