Manager Alan Pardew has said that Crystal Palace remain positive ahead of the Capital One Cup clash against Manchester City, and he’s spoken about our season so far – especially the away form since he came into the club.

In quotes carried by the Croydon Advertiser about the League Cup draw specifically, Pardew explained.

‘The draw came very quickly after the Charlton win, so the air went out of our balloon a little bit when we saw that. I do want a cup run. Ironically when I was at Newcastle last year, we won in that competition at City so it’s not impossible. That team I took there that night, that particular team, isn’t as good as the Palace team I have. So, we did it that night and I believe we can do it with this team at Palace.’

It appears one particular sentence in that quote has upset a few people who didn’t particular like Pardew anyway.

The Croydon Guardian carry quotes from the gaffer talking about the improving form of Palace since he arrived – 18 Premier League wins in 30 – our away form, and particularly our form so far this year with our bright start and now he wants us to kick on properly as we go into the tie against West Bromwich Albion.

‘It`s a good return, we find ourselves on 12 points with a game at home. We`re going to try to exploit that – we haven`t always done that. It`s a big game for us and a chance to find ourselves in a very nice position if we win it. Last year, the criticism of us at home was fair, although in the second half of the season we had tough games and we`ve still had that. At some point they do get easier, don`t they? This year, we`ve had Arsenal and Man City at home – tough games. Aston Villa we won but we have got to make sure we win against the teams in and around us. That`s a criticism of us and something we need to address.’

With a Watford confidence boost behind us as we got back to winning ways, Pardew went on to say.

‘From a manager`s perspective it was a great day for me and my team. I was really pleased, it wasn`t our greatest performance but a really good, professional performance and as the manager of the team that makes me happy. We respected the front two at Watford greatly but our centre-halves, Scott Dann and Brede Hangeland, and Joe Ledley did a super job. They gave us the platform to break into wide areas and there was some very good wide play today. That won us the game.’
