Manager Alan Pardew has built on his words about Wilfried Zaha’s ‘slip’ in the five one victory over former club Newcastle United, and having already made it clear he felt he had dived in the game contrary to the player’s own words, he went on to explain that they had had a chat about it.

Speaking to Crystal Palace FC with the winger missing Monday’s game against Everton with a one match ban for five yellow cards, the quotes already doing the rounds were.

‘Definitely at Leicester he should have had a penalty, but Saturday was a dive. He’s paid the price, he can’t play this week and now his place is in jeopardy, because if someone comes in and does a great job then he might not get back in the side. So he’ll learn that lesson.’

In the official site coverage of this part of his press conference though, Pardew is also quoted confirming that he had spoken to our 23 year old about the incident and that he felt it would aide his game further, as Zaha is somebody who doesn’t like missing games – especially when he’s in this kind of form.

‘He’s not somebody that is renowned for diving and it’s something that I personally discourage. I really don’t like it in the game. He’s had my feelings on it and he’ll learn from that experience. Remember this is a guy who has been having a great season for us. He’s been instrumental in a lot of our victories, so I’ve been very, very pleased with him. It’s just a tiny aspect of his game which he needs to correct.’
