Steve Parish has decided to take the positives from Anthony Gardner deciding to move to Sheffield Wednesday.

Speaking to the South London Press after Gardner rejected fresh terms at Selhurst, Parish admitted that although they wanted him to remain at the club, it could serve our long term aims more because of the possibility of a further promotion of a youngster.

‘Anthony was fabulous for us, but it could be a blessing in disguise. We have to make long term plans, and if he had stayed it would have meant putting that off. We’re pleased to get Aaron Martin on loan and if we can get a bit of cover we’re quite comfortable in that position.’

With the changing focus to younger players, whilst they learn we might take a bit of a hit compared to having Gardner in there, but long term if handled right Parish is correct and even with Martin coming in, we will need cover so will be forced to look for a younger signing, or bring somebody up earlier than we would’ve done had he stayed.
