Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson has confirmed that Bakary Sako’s season is now over following a serious ankle injury.

The 29 year old Mali international suffered a fractured ankle and damaged ligaments in the midweek one all draw against West Ham United and it does come as another blow for Hodgson who didn’t manage to get all of the deals he wanted done on deadline day.

Sako has scored six times so far this season despite only starting seven games and he’s hit two goals in the last four games as Palace pulled themselves up the table and into 13th place, however we are only three points above the dropzone.

Speaking to the BBC as he met with the media ahead of this weekend’s clash with Newcastle United, the former England man explained that he was a doubt to be fit for the start of next season.

‘Baky’s injury is a very serious one. He certainly won’t play again this season and may be a doubt to be fit for the start of next.’
