Successive Clean Sheets Please Ward

Defender Joel Ward has said he was delighted to see Palace pick up their second consecutive clean sheet in the game against Aston Villa.

With caretaker boss Keith Millen overseeing a scoreless draw, building on the outing against Queens Park Rangers in our previous game, Ward told Crystal Palace FC that whilst it was disappointing not to have won the game, we have to be happy with the clean sheets over the hectic Christmas period.

‘Picking up a point away from home is a good result. We created some good chances including the best one of the game when Yannick went through one on one and hit the bar. Once again it didn’t go for us, but we’ll take the positives from that and move on.’

With managerial upheaval for the second time this season, Ward also credited the group of players and staff for staying focused, not getting distracted and putting in some professional performances to get us two points and the clean sheets to build on.

‘We’ve come out of them with two draws but probably should have come away with two wins.’

Ending his interview he admits it remains disappointing that we are still in the drop zone, but with how we are playing and defending he’s convinced it’s only a matter of time before we pull away properly from the bottom of the table.

‘It’s one of those things, we don’t want to be in the relegation zone but we are and we’ve got to face facts. We’ve got to get together and with a few little tweaks here and there we’ve got the quality to get ourselves up the table and pick up results.’
