Sunderland Frustration For Ward

Fullback Joel Ward has been speaking about his frustration and the frustration in the group following Saturday’s loss to Sunderland.

Coming into the game at Selhurst Park against David Moyes’ side having picked up all three points against Bournemouth in the midweek encounter, clearly Crystal Palace were looking to make it back to back victories but with a first half meltdown seeing a four nil loss that certainly didn’t happen.

Speaking to Crystal Palace FC in his own post game press conference, Ward said the players needed to ‘come off the ropes swinging’ to give a response following an ‘extremely frustrating’ defeat that saw us leak three goals inside of six match minutes.

‘It’s extremely frustrating. First half I think they out-worked us and we let them play, let them pick up the ball in dangerous areas and didn’t cope with what they threw at us and that’s unacceptable. We wanted to come in to the game with the momentum from Bournemouth the other night, but we didn’t do that and by the time we did it was too late.’

With greater possession on the day overall and greater chances, he went on to say.

‘If you get the first goal it’s a massive boost for the side, but we didn’t get it. Then we made it too easy for them to get their noses in front and gifted them too many goals. We have to get together, dust ourselves off, roll up our sleeves and go, if we don’t do that we’re going to be in very big trouble. We need to come off the ropes swinging – and that’s just the start of it.’
