The FA Cup season continued with the third round replays with these games played this midweek.

Wednesday 18th January 2017 – FA CUP THIRD ROUND REPLAY

It wasn’t too long ago that Wimbledon and Sutton were at the same level. However, times have changed but it was the non-league side who came from behind to secure – against the 10 man Dons – a dramatic late 3-1 win at Kingsmeadow.
Having been on for a penalty shootout at Oakwell – when Barnsley came back from a goal down against Blackpool to force extra time – Gary Bowyer’s Pools scored an added time winner to move into the fourth round with a 2-1 win over the Championship Tykes.
The all-Premier League meeting saw Burnley continue the impressive Turf Moor form with a 2-0 win over Sunderland. This will mean the Black Cats are now left to ‘focus on the league’ and a relegation battle.
Fleetwood’s attention will now be fully on securing a play-off place in League 1. Bristol City are on a woeful run of Championship form but recorded a 1-0 win at the Highbury Stadium to take up a place in round four.
Sam Allardyce collected his first win as Crystal Palace boss when his new side came back from a goal down against – a former one of course – Bolton to record a 2-1 win at Selhurst Park that could have given Palace something to build on.
Ipswich were arguably fortunate to force a replay against Lincoln in the first place but in the replay the Tractor Boys did crash out. With the game set for extra time the Imps scored an added time winner at Sincil Bank to see the non-league side to a 1-0 victory.
Wednesday saw the teams take the final places in the fourth round draw without the need for extra time or the drama of penalties in any of the ties.
Newcastle will be focused mainly on a return to the Premier League but moved a step closer to Wembley with a 3-1 over Championship rivals Birmingham at St James’ Park. Defeat for the visitors continues to see pressure build on Gianfranco Zola who is yet to secure a win since he was appointed as the Blues’ boss.
Having held Liverpool at Anfield to a goalless draw in the original tie League 2 promotion chasing Plymouth couldn’t record an upset as the Premier League side edged out the Pilgrims in this replay by securing a 1-0 victory at Home Park.
Southampton – who will seek to book a place in the League Cup final place next week when they face Liverpool – needed an added time winner at the St Mary’s Stadium to see off Norwich 1-0.
