The Premier League season continued with some games played during midweek.

A Chelsea win took them seven points clear of Tottenham and in command to be crowned champions – double winners even having confirmed an FA Cup final spot. But Spurs reacted with a win on Wednesday to close the gap to four points again.

However, at the other end, Sunderland are now on the brink of relegation after losing in the derby with rival Middlesbrough, still likely to join them in the Championship though?

Here’s a round-up of the Premier League action from the other games, with the Manchester derby to take place.

Chelsea’s bid to win a fifth Premier League title – a first under Antonio Conte in his debut season – is still very much on after a 4-2 win over Southampton at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday, taking the Blues seven points clear of nearest rivals Tottenham. The Saints, ninth, have now lost successive games and remain four points behind West Brom, eighth, with six to play – one more than Albion.

A late own goal saw Arsenal to a crucial 1-0 win over Leicester that keeps the slim top-four hopes alive. The Gunners, up to sixth, are four points behind Manchester City, fourth, and three Manchester United, fifth, but the Manchester rivals meet on Thursday – Liverpool, third, lead Arsene Wenger’s side by six points but have played two games more there’s not much in the goal difference… still, it’ll be a tall order to finish in the Champions League spots? The Foxes, 15th, are three without but do hold a six point advantage over third-bottom Swansea.

The Tees-Wear derby ended with Middlesbrough recording a 1-0 win over Sunderland to keep alive their hopes of staying in the Premier League – chances are, with Boro six points from safety, they’ll still go down where they’ll join the bottom of the league Black Cats, 12 points from safety with only 15 to play for.

Crystal Palace, 12th, remain seven points above the relegation zone following a 1-0 defeat in the visit of Tottenham to Selhurst Park – a first Palace loss in four, only a third in the last 10. However, Spurs’ eighth victory in a row keeps them in contention to be crowned champions as it cut Chelsea’s lead to four points again – it also set a new Premier League points high for the club leaving them on the brink of confirming a finish ahead of rivals Arsenal for the first time since the 1994-95 season.
