The Premier League season continued with the latest round of games played over the weekend.
Wins for Chelsea and Tottenham – a ninth in a row for Spurs – keeps the bid to win the Premier League at a two-horse race.
Sunderland’s relegation was confirmed, Middlesbrough are close to joining them in the Championship – Swansea or Hull are most likely to fill the third spot.

A last minute penalty safe denied Southampton a win that could prove crucial to Hull’s recovery bid as this 0-0 draw on Saturday kept them in 17th and two points above Swansea, who drew on Sunday.
Stoke and West Ham played out a 0-0 draw at the bet365 Stadium to move them both closer to secured Premier League safety.
Bottom club Sunderland were relegated, ending a 10 year stay in the Premier League. A late Bournemouth goal saw them to a 1-0 win at the Stadium of Light that took the Cherries up to 10th-place and virtually assured Premier League survival.
West Brom’s fourth straight defeat extended a winless run to five but Albion remain in eighth. Leicester’s 1-0 win the Hawthorns gives the Foxes a chance of finishing in the top-10 and virtually assured their safety.
It’s now back-to-back defeats for Crystal Palace following a 2-0 defeat in the visit of Burnley, but Palace remain six points above the relegation zone. The Clarets’ first away win of the season moved them closer to another campaign of topflight football.
Manchester United’s unbeaten run was extended but yet another draw meant they missed the chance to move into the top-four. Swansea’s late point, from this 1-1 draw at Old Trafford on Sunday, keeps them within two points of safety.
Everton, after three second half goals, were eventually brushed aside by Chelsea – a 3-0 win at Goodison Park saw the leaders open up a seven point lead at the top again.
Second-bottom Middlesbrough were denied a priceless win as Manchester City twice hit back in a 2-2 draw at the Riverside Stadium, including City’s late equaliser. Boro are six points from safety with three to play.
Tottenham kept alive a bit to be crowned champions following a 2-0 win in the visit of North London rivals Arsenal at White Hart Lane – the gap remains at four points with four to play for Spurs and Chelsea. The Gunners’ defeat keeps them six off the top-four, they have a game more to play though.
