Manager Neil Warnock has confirmed that contract negotiations are ongoing with both Damien Delaney and Joel Ward.

Delaney is out of contract in the summer and negotiations are said to have been ongoing for the past month with both players, although full agreement is yet to be reached and nothing has been signed so far.

Speaking to Sky Sports the manager said.

‘At the moment he hasn’t signed it (Delaney) but the contract is there on the table. You would have to ask him why he hasn’t signed it. He’s a good leader for us in the dressing room. That’s why we have offered him a new contract but it’s up to him whether he signs it, not me.’

Sounds a little ominous really, but when you read his words about Ward as well it does come off more as Warnock just being ‘matter of fact’ when it comes to players and their decisions.

As for Ward, he added.

‘I think that Joel is an important player. It doesn’t mean that he will sign a contract. He’s got his options, speaking to the lad himself. I think it’s important that the club makes offers like this to players, not just when their contract has expired, but in plenty of time when you value their service.’
