With co-owner Steve Parish now being on record as saying he’d like striker Marouane Chamakh to remain at the club, the 30 year old now as come out talking about how he has enjoyed his football this season and how he feels re-energised again after dropping down the pecking order at Arsenal.

Speaking to Crystal Palace FC having now almost completed his first season with the club, he explained.

‘Everyone knows I have enjoyed being here this season. We had a big challenge when I came here – probably bigger than any challenge I’ve had before, so that was good for me. We did really well this season, there was a good atmosphere among the players and now that we are at the end of the season I can look back and be really happy about what we achieved.’

Chamakh goes on to say that’s he’s played a lot of football this season and been a regular again, which was why he moved and something he wanted to achieve with us. ‘It was a challenge to play regularly, to enjoy my football and have fun again.’

Explaining that he had lost that at Arsenal and he didn’t rekindle it during his loan spell with West Ham either.

‘It was really important for me to find that emotion again. I needed that, I wanted that and I am so happy.’

The striker also had plenty of praise for manager Tony Pulis for how he managed to turn things around in the camp and on the pitch when he came in, but Chamakh was quick to say that everybody in the squad deserved praise as well, not just those getting the points on the pitch, but also those not in the team because they were pushing through competition and helping in their own way.

Having settled in, should we want to see if we can get even more out of him next season, you’d imagine the ball will be in our court and it comes down to the type of deal we discuss.
