Striker Glenn Murray was a hair breath away from snatching arguably a deserved point against Arsenal yesterday following our performance.

With the opposition taking a two goal lead, Murray scrambled a goal home from close range in injury time, and then hit the woodwork seconds before the full time whistle.

Speaking to Crystal Palace FC following the game, Murray was obviously pleased with the impact he had coming on as a late second half substitute, but he was disappointed and gutted not to have made that header count and turn his first goal into more than a consolation.

‘There’s a feeling of disappointment in the dressing room as we pushed them all the way, and we were unlucky not to get something out of the game. It was a close one but unfortunately it wasn’t to be. It’s nice to get back on the scoresheet and hopefully I can get a few more now. I think it was very close to being 2-2 and it was just one of those things, some days they go in and others they don’t.’

With Palace having the better possession and a greater number of opportunities in the game, with ten more attempts overall than Arsenal, the performance the boys put in is pretty clear to see but sadly we just didn’t make those chances or that increased possession count.

For Murray though that is a positive of what we are capable of doing and he knows that we have to take that into the coming games now, and hopefully make it count against West Ham in the next games.

‘We proved to ourselves that we can compete with these sides and we were unlucky not to get anything from the game. We’ve got a lot of results when the gaffer first came in and I’m sure that’ll happen again. We’ve got to take the positives out of the game and take confidence from it. We’re disappointed with the goals we conceded, especially when we pride ourselves on defending, but when you’re 2-0 down you’ve got nothing to lose and I think we kept doing what we were doing and eventually it did pay off.’

With some saying post game that Palace were unlucky to be on the end of the penalty decision, with some deciding it was free kick outside the box instead and with the second goal having an offside in the build up that wasn’t given, Murray admitted in the changing room after the game there was a sense we’d been undone by two goals that shouldn’t have stood, but at that stage he hasn’t seen replays so wouldn’t overly commit – instead adding that if that was the case, along with us hitting the woodwork – it just proved it was one of those bad days at the office for us.
