Dougie Freedman has said he has been forced to look into the loan market for a centre back far earlier than he had initially hoped.

Speaking to the Croydon Advertiser Freedman admitted that with the deal for Morgan Gould not going as he had hoped, aswell as potential other permanent targets, he had now made contact with two Premiership sides over loaning players far earlier than originally intended.

‘I didn’t want to have to go to the loan market at this stage, I’d hoped to get at least one more centre back in on a permanent deal and then possibly utilise the loan market at the end of August when things are more settled. We’ve already made enquiries about two Premier League defenders and are waiting to hear back.’

Palace have been linked with Arsenal youngsters Kyle Bartley, but Dougie doesn’t believe Arsenal would play ball with that suggestion.

‘I’d love to have him, but realistically I’m not sure that one is doable.’

Freedman does say the two players he has enquired about have Championship experience, but that doesn’t really help narrow down the field does it.
