Having released former Manchester United academy graduate Zeki Fryers at the end of his Selhurst Park deal, signed from Tottenham three years ago, the defender has joined Barnsley.

Fryers will hope for better fortunes at Oakwell after the former Crystal Palace, struggling to hold down a first team place, after signing a three year deal with the Championship side.

Our friends at Vital Barnsley said:

Barnsley had offset the departure of captain Marc Roberts, who left for Birmingham, with the arrival of former Crystal Palace left back Zeki Fryers – the defender follows up the recent signing of central defender Ethan Pinnock.

An academy graduate at Manchester United, having had spells with Tottenham and Standard Liege, Fryers was a free agent following his release at Crystal Palace, where he had spent the past three years.

Fryers, 24, who signed a three year contract at Oakwell, struggled to make an impact in the Premier League but has Championship experience from previous loans at Ipswich and Rotherham.

Signed by former Palace boss Neil Warnock, Fryers failed to make an impact under him, Alan Pardew or Sam Allardyce during his time at Selhurst – his loan at Rotherham came prior to Warnock’s spell at the New York Stadium I believe.

It wasn’t to be for him at Palace but good luck to Zeki at Barnsley and for the remainder of his career.
