Skipper Mile Jedinak has said that the first goal for Chelsea in yesterday’s loss was a big moment for Palace, and for him the game turned at that point.

Speaking to Crystal Palace FC in his own post game interviews, Jedinak admitted that the first goal was key and whilst our heads didn’t necessarily drop when they opened the scoring, he knew Chelsea were lifted by that.

Going into the game with a six game unbeaten run behind us, Jedinak explained that capitalising on Chelsea’s frail confidence was part of the game plan, but of course their goal boosted them.

‘I just think when you concede a goal like that in the first-half it’s not ideal and it probably helps hem get their tails up after that. We know they’re a good side and it’s a false sense of where they are in the table at at the moment but if we had got the first goal then maybe we would have seen a different Chelsea. It was pivitol but we still had a lot of time to get ourselves out of that and the response was OK, but wasn’t sustained for long about and everyone n the dressing room knows that. We got a little bit wayward in the second half and allowed them to score two quick goals which went away from what we were trying to do so it’s very disappointing. They controlled the game after that and it never looked in doubt.’

With Palace beginning 2016 with a loss, there is the FA Cup third round tie with Southampton only a few days away, and for Jedinak it’s the cliche of dusting ourselves down and moving on now because we’ve had a great first half of the campaign and whilst that result wasn’t how we wanted to open up the second half of the year, there’s lots of football to be played and points to be won so it can’t effect confidence.

‘We’ve got to pick ourselves up and rectify that next week. We’ll be back on the training pitch as soon as we can getting ready for Southampton and we know that’s going to be tough. We’ll make sure we do what’s asked of us and put in some hard work. We’ve got to this point with that and today it was still there but we lacked a little bit of composure at times and I’m sure we’ll rectify it going forward. You don’t like to start the year with a loss but there’s plenty of time to change that. Although today was a disappointing result we’re still pushing forward and we’ll be up for the coming fixtures.’
