Following his early recall from a loan with Nottingham Forest, midfielder Jonny Williams has said he’s pleased to be back at Selhurst Park and now his focus is on really getting himself going with us again.

Speaking to Crystal Palace FC following his return, the Welsh international found himself on the bench in yesterday’s three nil loss to Chelsea, and did make his pitch return late on in the game as a substitute.

The 22 year old explained.

‘It was a special moment for me, I hadn’t played for Palace in about 16-18 months. I was delighted to get back out there, it’s been a long time. I can’t thank the fans enough for their support, even when I was out on loan.’

With a number of injuries hitting Palace at this moment in time, obviously that figured in the 22 year old’s early recall, but he knows it’s also a very good opportunity for him to impress and stake a real claim for a starting spot with people missing.

‘The manager told me we have a lot of injuries and wished me luck over the next month. We’ll see what happens. If I get an opportunity hopefully I can do well and impress him and stay involved. That’s my aim. I’ll do my best. I’m red and blue, so it’s nice to be home.’

Manager Alan Pardew was also quoted by the South London Press talking about his recall, and whilst he admitted it had been forced by injuries – he also acknowledged it was an opportunity for him now and it’s down to the youngster to take it.

‘That`s for him to try and push me. He got into the squad today because we were so short of players. That was the reason. I make no other odds about that. It`s not like he has ripped the place up at Notts Forest. He still has a lot of work to do. He is a favourite player here. I have seen zero of him. I love him though as a boy, we all do. That`s one of the reasons the fans love him, because he has a fantastic personality and he needs to play well.’

Short, sweet, to the point and rather blunt but it’s all down to Jonny now – the challenge is there and he has to rise to it.
