Having picked up a hamstring injury in the game against Sunderland on Monday, assistant manager Keith Millen has confirmed that Bakary Sako is likely out for a few weeks now.

Having been a doubt owing to a slight groin strain for Monday itself, he passed a late fitness test and featured off the bench at half time but only last 25 or so minutes.

Speaking to Crystal Palace FC ahead of the game in his pre match pre conference, Millen explained.

‘That’s a disappointing one for us. For a substitute to come on and strain his hamstring. He will be out tomorrow and probably for a few more weeks. He had no hamstring problem on international duty, it’s just unfortunate. He’s going to be a miss.’

Millen also confirmed that striker Dwight Gayle was nearing recovery now but Newcastle would come too soon for him, and he also added that with both Connor Wickham and Marouane Chamakh building their fitness in training, Wickham in particular was ‘looking sharper everyday’.

In other Palace news, on loan midfielder Jake Gray has been nominated for the PFA Fans’ Player of the Month award for Hartlepool United in League Two.

The 20 year old has scored twice in three appearances for them so far.
