Caretaker manager Keith Millen has confirmed that he expects Alan Pardew to be appointed officially as manager tomorrow.
with stories earlier today indicating that the deal had been delayed owing to protracted contract talks, with Pardew in the stands for our game against Aston Villa, Millen said after the game that he expected him to be in properly some point on Friday.
‘I think so, I don’t think he would have been at the game if there was a problem, he wouldn’t have been sitting in the stands. We are preparing for Alan to come in tomorrow to start working. We have a big game against Dover on Sunday so we have to get our heads around that one.’
Millen says that he’s been in touch with the chairman and been keeping the players abreast of what Steve Parish had been telling him, but he admitted as the team left the hotel for the game they weren’t sure what was happening, but at the ground he received a message saying Pardew would be in attendance, so he’s expecting a formal announcement imminently now.
‘He didn’t have any input during the game or before but he came in after and was pleased and proud with what he saw. He said we need to add more to our game to score more goals and win football matches but it’s a good start for Alan to see us.’
With Millen’s own future somewhat up in the air, he indicated that Pardew has asked him to remain at the club and in post, but he appreciates there will be a bedding in period and the current staff will have to adjust to what the new manager requires from them, but that will be dealt with over the next few weeks.
‘As the weeks go by he’ll analyse what we do. We have to learn what he wants and hopefully we can do that. If Alan wants to bring in people I’m sure he will, we haven’t got a big staff but we work hard and are organised.’
